A man has captured the moment a ghost appeared to open and shut his hotel drawer before hurling an iron to the floor. Andy Maddox was away on a work training course in Kent when strange things allegedly started happening in his room.
What the 42-year-old caught on camera left him so spooked that he struggled to sleep for the rest of the week. The railway engineer said the bizarre activity first started on the evening of 22 September, when a hotel room drawer appeared to open by itself.
At first, he brushed it off – but things soon escalated. Andy’s wife, Natalie, later posted the clips online. “I was watching TV and it caught me out of the corner of my eye,” said Andy, from Chertsey.

“I thought, ‘Oh right, that’s a bit odd’. I love paranormal stuff, but I’m more sceptical, I try to find an explanation rather than [think] it’s a ghost. I shut it [the drawer] and about five minutes later, it just opened again. I didn’t think much of it.”
The next night, as he sat in bed watching TV, Andy said the drawer creaked open again. He said: “The next morning, it was open, and that evening it started opening and shutting by itself. I thought, this is a bit strange now, that’s when I started taking videos.
“I sent it to my wife, Natalie, and she said, ‘Nah, you’re pushing it'. I said, ‘I swear to God I’m not'.”
Over the next few nights, the supernatural activity ramped up. He said: “On Wednesday, I woke up in the night and I swear to God I saw something walk across the room, like a dark figure.
“I got goosebumps. I tried to rationalise it, thinking, nah, it’s dark and I’m half asleep. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me in the nighttime, but I definitely saw something walk across the room from the entrance door to the window.”
By Thursday, the spooky goings-on had reached a new level. Andy said an iron, which had been safely placed on a table, suddenly crashed to the ground – despite being nowhere near the edge.
Moments earlier, the drawer had once again opened by itself. Andy said: “I was talking to it, trying to see what was going on.
“All of a sudden, I heard that bang. I had ironed my t-shirt before the training course, and it was plugged in. It was nowhere near the edge of the table; it was a good 10 inches away.
“The drawer opened and I heard the bang and [the iron] pulled itself out. It was on the floor. That’s when I started sh****** myself a bit.

“That night, I got a really weird sensation all over my body. I could feel something with me. I was trying to explain everything away, but there’s no way I could explain the drawer and the iron. It’s the first time I’ve ever experienced anything like that. It really has changed my opinion on the paranormal.
“A lot of people say it’s fake, but I’ve got nothing to gain out of it. I’m not even on social media.”
Viewers were left divided over the clips shared online, with more than 500 commenters arguing whether it was truly paranormal or just a trick of the light. One person said: “The orbs flying in front of the camera too.”
Someone else added: “Be careful, because you’ve interacted – that can come home with you.” Another viewer added: “If you slow the video down you can see the plug falling mid-air.”
But there were also plenty of people convinced that Andy had caught the real deal. One person said: “Omg I’ve never seen a poltergeist video that I actually believed was real. This is mental!! My heart is racing.”
